Society of the Spectacle 1967 The glass spectacle is about the tension between two aspects of blown glass; The human and social process of glass blowing with all its showmanship, physicality, agility and drama and the glass product itself, a commercial object, with a role to play in a wider economic system. On offer are two experiences at once. An artificial version of the glass blowing process twined with a real, hand made object. In keeping with Debord’s statement it is the mediated, fictitious experience that dominates while the reality it sprang from becomes secondary.
