To film a beautiful sunset or to tape the sound of your own voice are attempts to conserve time. With a microphone or a video camera, reality can be reproduced and saved on a recording medium. I have always recorded myself and my surroundings; with time it’s grown into quite a collection. My work Dark Recordings takes this collection as its starting point: some 50 cassette tapes filled with audio recordings, and a box of old Super 8 films found in my mother’s attic. The tapes and films were digitized and used as source material for an audiovisual composition. Dark Recordings is a concentrate of a life’s worth of home recordings; a monument of all the forgotten tapes and films packed away in boxes in attics waiting to be played.
