What if you create your best art when you are 80?

In the photo series Porträtt av tradition (Portrait of Tradition), 2007, I have chosen to relate to the way my generation perceives older artists. We have different prejudices about each other. I often hear that older artists act on an antiquated view of the artist’s role. We younger ones lack references. My work is about making people aware of a tradition and clarifying it, as a way of seeing where my own role as an artist has developed from.

In my degree project I manifest a thought concerning the fixation on youth in the field of art. When we graduate from Konstfack we are expected to be the best, the most shiny‑eyed and bushy-tailed, the hungriest, the most interesting... But what if this time comes later – when you are 80?

Is there really time in our society to wait for you?
