Simon Gate

The motivation for my degree project is joy, a word that I have often lost in favour of being more concrete.

To me, photos can capture an event, portray feelings and artistic precision, and they always and unavoidably constitute an interplay between people and technique. I photographed myself through my growth, into the art world, and onto the working life. Photography has led me to industrial design. I will finish my studies at this college by studying a form that I know intimately, a product that has shaped my
ideals and undoubtedly brought satisfaction to my designing process.

I applied to the Industrial Design department because I am inspired by the combination of creativity, psychology and technique – to create from given conditions while simultaneously watching, understanding and interacting in an effort to find new opportunities. But it is not the combination alone that appeals to me, it is the joy of applying it.
